Wheat Flour
THAT'S IT! And Guinness, the picky lil pooch, LOVED them!
First off, for those that don't have kids, baby food is not near human food in Wal-Mart. Nope. It's by the baby clothes. I know. You're welcome. At least you won't look like me by wandering around when shopping for the ingredients.
OK so here are the details.
Ingredients
- 2 Cups 100% organic wheat flour (or wheat germ, or spelt, or rolled oats, or a mixture of these)
- 2 4oz jars or pureed baby food
- Beef, Blueberry, Sweet Potato, chicken
- Just make sure there are no onion/onion powder in it
- Avoid any with artificial preservatives
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Mix together to form a stiff dough. If necessary, add extra flour or water as needed.
3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to about a 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shape or a pizza cutter to make cubes.
4. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, place treats about 1/2 inch apart. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes. Allow to cool completely before storing in a paper bag (storing in an air-tight container will make them soft, but they're still edible).
Patiently waiting! |
I don't have the space to roll out the dough, or even a cookie cutter. So I took lil bits of the dough and rolled into balls and made lil indents in them to look like paw prints!
I didn't do any customizing to the ingredients, but from what I hear you can add grated carrots or sweet potatoes, a little bit of parsley (which supposedly helps with bad breath), blueberries. Sounds delicious, right?! Check out this list I found on Cesar Milan's website of pet approved human food to be sure we are keeping Fido safe!
The ONLY thing I found with homemade dog goodies, don't make pounds at a time. They will go bad quicker than store bought. It's great to make a bunch & give as gifts to other pet-parents!
Waiting for them to cool! |
Fun rainy day project or simple enough for the kids to help with and make their own treats for Fido!
Have Fun! Stay tuned for more treats coming soon!
What did you add to them? Have an other easy recipes?
